“Most garage owners I talk to are running their business across five or six different systems,” said James Gleeson, founder of MotorWorks. “Paper job cards on clipboards, invoices typed up in Word or Excel, parts costs tracked in their head, a whiteboard for scheduling, and their phone for every customer update. Each one works on its own, but nothing talks to anything else. That’s where the evenings and weekends go — reconciling all of it.”

Designed around how workshops actually run

Most garage software on the market started life as dealership management systems and was stripped back for smaller operations. MotorWorks went the other direction — designed from scratch around the workflows of owner-operated workshops and multi-site garage groups.

The platform includes Irish vehicle registration lookup via Motorspecs, which auto-populates make, model, year, engine, and vehicle history when a registration number is entered. Customers access a self-service portal using a one-time passcode — no passwords to manage — where they can check job progress, approve quotes, view invoices, and book services.

“The customer portal alone cut the ‘is my car ready?’ phone calls significantly for our users,” said Gleeson. “But the real value is in the financial visibility. When your purchase orders are linked to your jobs, and your jobs generate your invoices, you can see actual profit per job, per technician, per service type. Most garage owners don’t have that — they find out how the month went when their accountant tells them.”

Car sales module sets it apart

Unlike competing workshop management systems, MotorWorks includes a dedicated car sales module that tracks vehicles from acquisition through to sale. Garage owners can log purchase prices, assign prep work as internal jobs, manage listings on platforms like DoneDeal and Carzone, track enquiries from potential buyers, record deposits, and see profit per vehicle.

“A lot of garages in Ireland do both — repairs and car sales,” said Gleeson. “But their workshop software only handles one side of the business. We built MotorWorks to handle both, because that’s how these businesses actually operate.”

MotorWorks is available from €199 per month with all features included. There are no per-user fees, no feature tiers, and no charges for additional locations. The platform includes iOS and Android mobile apps, multi-location support with shared customer databases and location-specific settings, and data migration from existing systems.
